n April 10th, following a three-hour court hearing in Federal Plaza, I hustled over to Chinatown’s House of Joy. I was with Ethan Frisch and Ori Zohar, whose Burlap & Barrel may be your favorite chef’s favorite spice company. The 10-year-old company directly imports Guatemalan cardamom and Zanzibar chai blend from farmers; develops collabs with big industry names like Martha Stewart, Honeysuckle’s Omar Tate and Cybille St. Aude-Tate, and Sohla and Strange Delight’s Hisham “Ham” El-Waylly. Most importantly, it has made paprika a part of my almost-daily life again.
