Eli Sussman, the chef who opened Gertrude’s and a one-man meme factory, has quietly announced a new job: He is now the director of brand strategy and communications at DineAmic Hospitality, a Chicago group that has 15 different concepts under its umbrella. (The chef relocated to the Chicago suburbs for the job—no longer a coastal elite, eh?—but remains a partner in Gertrude’s and an investor in its sister restaurants.) “I get the chance to be a part of a successful operation with over 15 years of operational experience in one of the best food cities in the world,” Sussman told me. “It offered a singular opportunity to apply all of the hospitality industry skills I've been developing over the last two decades (culinary, social media creation/strategy, PR, operations/ownership) to a growing, exciting hospitality group.”
