The city is brimming with new museum restaurants: Symone at MoMA PS1, Zoli (part of the Amant Arts Foundation), Oberon at the New Museum, and Marcel inside the Breuer building (where Sotheby’s auction house offers public viewings, like the recent Fernando Botero show). Come 2027, Rita Sodi and Jody Williams will open at the Met. And soon, another will join the mix. Canyon—a museum devoted to video art—was announced last year to be in the works on the Lower East Side from Joseph C. Thompson (known for MASS MoCA) and philanthropist Robert Rosenkranz (who’s on the board of the Whitney Museum of Art). At the time, press around the 42,000-square-foot, multi-level space at 200 Broome Street included an announcement that a hospitality operator for its in-house cafe, restaurant, and bars would be unveiled in the coming months.
