From left: Lisbonata, Caffè Panna, and Hani’s. (Shot in CrowleyScope™.)

A few times this summer, my wife Jordan has forced me to endure the humiliation ritual of waiting in line for viral ice cream. After a steak dinner at Socceria, she hurried me over to the Greenpoint outpost of Caffè Panna, Hallie Meyer’s empire of collabs both ice cream and soft serve. (There was the same long line of Zoomers, and a large curbside puddle in the same exact spot.) Then, a few weeks later, I was forced to hold her a spot in the Lisbonata line, so that I could eat corn soft serve redolent of summer produce at Key Food. In my own frequent soft serve pursuits this summer, I have avoided the humiliation ritual by going to Slik, a “Scandanavian-inspired” candy store which, of all the places I’ve visited this summer, is doing the most to advance soft serve technology in this city.
